Experimental investigation of micro EDM drilling in the CFRP using response surface methodology

Recently, most of the conventional (industrial) materials such as steel, aluminum, and copper are being replaced by composite materials. Among various materials, CFRP material is one popular in many industries due to its excellent mechanical properties like-high strength, high modulus, compressive etc. However, micro hole EDM drilling challenging fiber orientation, uneven distribution conducting fiber, delamination affecting removal rate (MRR) quality performance. The objective article optimize process parameters for optimum composites. For this purpose, response surface methodology applied investigate effect input which voltage, capacitance, tool rotation speed on rate, roundness error, tapper micro-hole. experiments have been conducted according box behnken design experiments. Regression equations, surfaces developed. Optimum responses determined desirability function approach. experimental investigation shows that capacitance highly significant factor among output tapper. MRR increases with increasing initially but value decreases further at a particular voltage. Roundness error decrease then increases. obtained range 150–250 nF 1400–1600 rpm speed, 100
